Replaces iron lost during heavy menstrual bleeding
Heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) is one of the leading causes of iron deficiency anemia in women of reproductive age. If you regularly bleed heavily during your period (soaking through a pad or tampon hourly, or passing clots), you may be losing more iron than your diet can replace. Iron deficiency anemia causes fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, poor concentration, and hair thinning. Ferrous bisglycinate is the best-tolerated iron form — significantly less constipating than ferrous sulfate.
Women with heavy periods who experience fatigue, weakness, hair loss, or have been told they are anemic.
25–65 mg elemental iron daily, taken with vitamin C (helps absorption). Have your ferritin and hemoglobin tested to determine the right dose.
Fatigue often improves within 2–4 weeks. Full iron store replenishment (ferritin) takes 3–6 months.
Dark stools (normal and harmless). Constipation — drink plenty of water and eat fiber. Take with food if nausea occurs.
ALWAYS get blood tests before supplementing iron at therapeutic doses. Iron overload can be harmful. Do not take with tea, coffee, calcium, or antacids.
