Rather than fixating on one exact number, most nutrition professionals recommend using a calculated estimate as a starting range and adjusting based on real-world results (energy, weight trend, and hunger) over a few weeks.
Women training intensely β especially in endurance or aesthetic sports β face a specific risk called Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S), where insufficient fueling for high training volume disrupts hormones, bone density, and performance, sometimes without dramatic weight loss as an obvious warning sign.
