Supports thyroid function, reduces cortisol, improves energy
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an adaptogenic herb with growing clinical evidence for thyroid health. A randomized controlled trial showed ashwagandha root extract significantly improved T3 and T4 levels in subclinical hypothyroidism patients. As an adaptogen, it also lowers cortisol (chronic stress suppresses thyroid function), improves energy and fatigue (the most common hypothyroid complaint), and supports immune regulation. KSM-66 is the most clinically studied, high-bioavailability ashwagandha extract.
Women with hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, chronic fatigue, or stress-induced thyroid disruption.
300–600 mg KSM-66 ashwagandha extract daily. Can be split into two doses. Best absorbed with meals.
Energy and stress improvements often noticed within 2–4 weeks. Thyroid hormone improvements in clinical studies observed at 8 weeks.
Generally well tolerated. May cause drowsiness (take in evening if this occurs). Rare: digestive upset, headache.
Avoid during pregnancy (may stimulate uterine contractions). Stop 2 weeks before surgery. Use with caution if you have hyperthyroidism (it may increase thyroid hormone levels).
